If you had access to a knowledge base built from hundreds of managers who are deemed highly effective at managing cross generationally, would you use it?

GeNext has built such a knowledge base by identifying the core competencies needed for managing today’s workforce. We conducted one-on-one interviews with hundreds of managers from virtually every sector (aerospace, professional sports, retail, development, government, media, education, professional services, non-profit). As an organizational executive or a hands-on manager, you are familiar with the challenges a multi-generational workforce presents. Odds are, you probably know who is effective at managing Millennials and who is not. However, knowing why managers are effective or ineffective is what gives you competitive advantage.

If you could map out a measurable personal development plan for your managers or yourself that would lead to greater effectiveness, would you do it?

Every manager we interviewed desired to be successful. Ironically, many were doing a lot of things right but were simply unaware of the behaviors that undermined their overall effectiveness. Ultimately, they found themselves frustrated and at their wit’s end due to not being able to “figure it out.” Every manager who goes through our training receives a Generational Rapport Inventory™(GRI) report that identifies her/his strengths and weaknesses with respect to the core competencies exhibited by the effective managers in our study. In essence, we take the guesswork out of the equation and give managers practical feedback about how they think, act, and are perceived during critical encounters with their direct reports. With each engagement, we include a one-year anniversary GRI that measures a manager’s progress on each competency.

If you could get a snapshot of your organizational culture and its readiness to integrate Millennials, could you benefit from it?

One of the most valuable tools an organizational leader can acquire is current, accurate, and useful data. GeNext’s GRI Composite Report gives decision-makers the ability to better understand their organizational culture. You can easily see where there are needs in your organization with respect to critical competencies like the ability to adapt, communicate, and envision. The report informs recruiting, talent pipeline development, incentive programs, policies, processes, training, and a myriad of other important business practices. The biggest investment in training is not always money–it is time. Are your managers spending their time learning the right things?

Are you ready for a paradigm shift?

If your organization is anything like our clients, managers will report how invaluable they believe the training to be. The primary indicator of training success is an increase in self-efficacy (the belief in one’s own ability). One thing we hear over and over in our evaluations is how much more prepared participants feel with respect to managing across generations. The term paradigm shift adequately describes the sentiments of our participants.

A. We can provide the GRI survey, coaching conversations, and training sessions within 8 weeks of being contracted. Training schedules can be adapted to fit with your existing development programs.

Q. Who manages the communication with participant invites and direct reports?

A. We take responsibility for the survey invites and reminders. The GRI is hosted on our secure servers and all data is handled by GeNext.
